Last night I dropped my phone (I know, I know) and on the left hand side of my screen I know how a large black spot about the size of my thumb. The touch sensitivity still works in that area it is just entirely black (like someone dropped a big thing of ink on the phone). Is it possible to get this fixed or would i need to buy a new phone?
You have damaged the LCD Display. Maybe in a few days the LCD will sort itself out. If not you need to replace the entire Front Screen (Front Glass and LCD Display).
Do you know where you'd go to get the LCD fixed? Estimate on costs?
If you have Warranty or AppleCare Coverage, the Genuis at Apple may have some sympathy for your problem and replace your iPhone under Warranty. If not replaced for free, Apple replacement (Refurb) to fix the Front Screen is $199.00. If you want to repair yourself, search the Web for iPhone Front Screens they cost about $40 right now. If you want to search a Repair Shop try that.

This is my screen, the spot below have splitted from the source on the edge and becomes a circle. The above has become a bit like the teardrops and another edge is blacking up above the bar-like black pits
